Windows:
On a network, one can login on any machine using the network login-id & password. A machine is generally specific to a user and it may contain personal & confidential folders too, which too can be accessed by any user who logs in to the machine. If a user is to make that data secure he would have to place it in his $User-area. ("C:\Documents & Settings\$user-area"). Files present in the $user-area have user based permissions.
Therefore, if we were to give permissions to the other folder (e.g. C:\abc\) we would have to move it to the $user-area.
The summary of the idea is - "If we just create a link (shortcut) of the C:\abc\ in the $user-area, then the C:\abc\ also acquires the user-specific-properties of $user-area and hence becomes a user-specific folder"
This invention allows flexibility by allowing users to just place shortcuts of the desired folders in the $user-area or other folders thus exercising the same control properties over linked folders too.

Mobile Document Format (MDF)
It is an idea coined in 2004. Posting it from one of the PPT slides that was available with me.
Today’s Situation:
-> One cannot exchange a ring tone, picture message across different makes of mobiles. (eg. Nokia to Samsung mobile phone and others)
MDF dares to be a standard format that allows seamless interchange of communication object between all different makes of mobile phones. It's name is derived from PDF (Portable Document Format) that allows same document to be consistent over any platform. If it becomes a reality, any information object (ring tone, picture message, business card, video etc) could be exchanged without dataloss between any make of mobile phone.
Bluetooth solves some part of the exchange but it requires the phones to be in proximity and has been seen to fail in many cases even in proximity.
Though there are some unanswered questions:
- Why would they have not made an attempt up till now? (if big players don't want it to be standardized?)
- One would have to learn to read each manufacturer format. Would one wish to start from the scratch as formats would keep on adding?
But it can add value to the mobile industry. It should be something driven by the Mobile Standards Organization.

Run-time exclusion of members while sending email to a mailgroup.
Summary: If one wants to send an email to all the persons in a group except one or few people, One should be able to exclude one or few addresses from the group in the email recipient location itself.
For example: This is useful when there is a group which includes 100 people in it, and if one wants to send an email to whole group except one person. In such situation we have to either edit (if one can) that list and remove the email id of a particular person or let the mail go to the whole
group without excluding the person. Most of the groups don't give you permission to edit the email-group list so in that case you will have to add all 99 email ids from that group. which can be a bit time taking activity.
Even sending a Forwarded email to a group is not possible currently if the sender is member of the group. But with this invention, we would be able to send these kind of emails to the group excluding few members easily.
1. Amit (Amit@XYZ.com) gets a email from Ravi (Ravi@XYZ.com) both are members of the Email Group: XYZ@yahoogroups.com
2. Amit needs to forward the same to the rest of the email group members
3. He writes this in the "To" field of the email: XYZ@yahoogroups.com - [Ravi@XYZ.com]
4. Result is: The email is sent to the whole group MINUS Ravi
By doing this, one does not edit the group but the list of the recipients is edited at run-time while email is being sent with least efforts.

Easy tab-through control of Forms

With the data become electronic, one (anyone entering the data) gets to fill many forms on the computer. To fill those quickly, one likes to traverse the form through the key "Tab" without using the mouse. But one has to go through the whole form. Many times when we need to fill just a few fields of a SAME big form (many fields) but still we are forced to traverse through the full form (if one is using just the keyboard).
With this idea/invention we are allowing the user to control the tabbing of a document. While pressing tabs he can override the default tabbing of the document to fasten the form-filling process. So that tabs take him to the desired fields while skipping the non-useful fields. Hence a user can now use his keyboard only for filling a big form in a fast way.
Advantages:
1. Faster process of filling the form using the key board. One doesn't have to get place mouse again and again at the desired field.
2. Skipping fields (that need not be filled) automatically without going through them through the keys.
